Aeronautical range

Aeronautical range. It’s been five years at the Mumbai Airport and some of our most loyal and ardent patrons are pilots and crew members. This is our way of saying Thank You for your support and patronage across the years. We hope to be with you while you waltz across the skies.

Birds

While I was a child, I would observe sparrows from our veranda, their movements and chirping were naturally synchronised. Parrots in their bright plumage, screeching-by in riotous unison would fascinate me to no end. I would climb the Guava tree in our back yard and find numerous fruits half eaten by them. Then during schooling at Wynberg Allen, my brush with nature and the avian species left an indelible mark that has stayed with me till today.
Three years ago, I decided to create a range of products with “Birds” as a theme, this was also because of the urban landscape that I lived-in had no space for them. My team researched birds, their habitats, common name, scientific name, field characters, distribution, habits, food, nesting and calling signs. We commissioned an artist to create a limited edition of water colour paintings on birds, these were mounted on framable handmade cards. We then expanded our range with handmade journals, each with textile spines and printed covers. We then went on to create metal bookmarks in the shape of a few birds. Each product comes with a booklet explaining the detailed habitat and characteristics of each bird featured in the range.

Being self taught and having started as a designer with an untrained mind, I always chose subjects and ideas that were close to my heart. I was never one of those that followed trends and forecasts. The road that I chose was less travelled and thats made all the difference.

This range took three years to complete because I couldn’t devote enough time in designing the packaging and information that would go along with it. All said and done, it has now been released and is a must for stationery collectors and bird aficionados.

BLACK, office accessories

BLACK.

There was no inspiration, reason or story. It was time for BLACK to happen.

Come experience it soon at our Kala Ghoda store, where, in all the white and gold, BLACK will stand its ground.

Vintage newspaper

New soft-bound journals complement our existing range of vintage newspaper stationery. Newspapers have always been an inspiration for us. We will keep looking for innovative ways to use them in our pieces of art.
This particular lot of newspapers date back to the 1970’s, it was picked-up at an auction by an old library that maintained volumes of newspapers bound together in their entirety. Our craftsmen strategically cut and tear relevant pieces of the newspaper so that the stationery looks aesthetically beautiful. If you look carefully, you can see that all our pencils have text flowing in one direction. Our notecards have torn edges with bamboo woven across the newsprint. Come visit us at Kala Ghoda and take home a story.

Write something today…

Writing is a tool for thinking, expression and encouraging creativity and can be an incredibly useful outlet to clear your mind. Writing helps you stockpile ideas and recover memories.

Warren Buffett has described writing as a key way of refining his thoughts while Richard Branson once said that his most essential possession was a standard-sized school notebook, which he used for regular writing.

At Anand Prakash, we have a vast and creative assortment of notebooks, journals and stationery to help put your words to paper. You can choose from luxurious silk bound journals to the more earthy indigo bound ones; with over fifty different ranges, you will be spoilt for choice. So here’s wishing you happy writing!

Inspired by the Amer Fort, Jaipur

A bookmark inspired from patterns on the Amer Fort, Jaipur. We have taken inspiration from this monument and our Amer range features stationery, journals, home decor and jewelry. On my many visits here, I have been enamoured by its tales and this range is a fitting tribute to this timeless inspiration. To give it the authentic feel like every Anand Prakash range, even our packaging mimics the texture of the walls of this magnificent fort, when you run your hands over the texture you get the exact feel of its walls. This range will be launched at our new Kala Ghoda store in Mumbai.

Handmade Paper

Handmade Paper By Anand Prakash

Paper was my first love; the very first business that I started over seventeen years ago. A lot of my work was raw and natural with torn edges and exposed fibres. Back then, the word eco-friendly wasn’t something that everyone was aware of. I bought my first sheet at the Gramudyog Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi and since then I have literally gone deep into its fibres, making, selling and their distribution. I have built relations with paper artists over the years and worked closely in creating a variety of them using techniques developed in-house and by experimenting with a lot of natural fibres, dyes and raw material. I have had a loyal set of followers who have appreciated and bought most of our work with paper. A time came when greeting cards lost their charm, the sales went downward and I had to innovate and survive. I may have done a lot of work in metal but I never forgot paper. Till today we have a steady stream of stationery and paper products coming out of our studios.

Here are a few papers that I have saved from the past. These were limited editions that I procured from artisans across the world. I have decided to exhaust the remaining sheets to launch a new range of stationery, journals and other pieces of art from our upcoming flagship store at Kala Ghoda, Mumbai.

Gilded stationery

At Anand Prakash embossing and gilding is still done the old fashioned way. The impression is first embossed on paper and then brushed with # gold powder, it is then left to dry for a few days. Once dry, the extra gold powder is brushed away leaving a gilded impression.

Pencils

IMG_0294

I am insanely-crazy about pencils therefore I keep looking for more ways to do new things. At this juncture of my design style, metal is a key signature therefore I keep adding subtle hints of it even though a lot of my work uses recycled, reclaimed and up cycled material. The metallic caps on the pencils are triangular in shape and require seven die impressions, it took us over a year to perfectly fit them on our pencils.

Art of writing

In today’s digital world, many of us have forgotten the art of writing. It’s too much of an effort and has become a relic. In the past writers were very particular about the paper and pen they chose. The joy of writing is slowly getting lost amidst buttons on a key pad and the mouse.

Personally, as a creative person, I cannot fathom putting my ideas on anything else other than pen and paper. My hands move with the same rhythm as my mind imagines, the flow of ink on the paper forming words and figures has its own distinct signature giving me immense satisfaction even before the ideas reach fruition.

The recycled paper in this image is from many years ago when we hand-brushed the edges with gold powder. It’s still crisp and beautiful; beckoning me to write a letter today!

Inspired by hypotrochoid art set

I have loved these since childhood. It brings back beautiful memories of lines, complex curves, gears in different sizes and coloured pens. Hypotrochoids are mathematical curves traced by a point in a circle(your pen) rolling around the inside of a bigger circle. These curves have been studied by mathematicians for centuries. The below range of bookmarks, handmade journals and envelopes have been inspired from hypotrochoid drawing sets.

Meri pencil

Stationery is personal again. I love stationery and I splurge when I see something nice. Meri kitab, my timeless journal, meri pencil, etc is my idea of creating a sense of belonging for it. In so many years of my creative journey, I have met numerous people who just love pencils. My journey with them began in the summer of 1999 and It continues till today with a huge variety in vintage documents, blueprints, maps, etc. The pencil cap featured in this picture is a masterpiece in itself, It took me close to a year, three master karigars, 7 dies and numerous other improvisations to get it to snugly fit. I have so many pencils that I just wish that I had more to write…#anandprakash #pencils #stationery#handmade #goldplated#loveforstationery #mypencil
