Taj Mahal Range
I often visit the Taj Mahal and it never fails to mesmerize me with its timeless beauty and grandeur. Every time I come here, there is an inspiration to create something. This happened on many of my visits but never materialised into anything until last year, when I carried along my Nikon and extensively photographed the architecture and the intricate geometrical patterns found on the exterior walls, facades, columns and gates of the Taj Mahal.
I wanted to do something more than just taking a picture of the Taj Mahal and putting it on everything!
We then set out to trace and recreate them to fit into our product range. A lot of patterns had to be redone to fit into the design of our products. What you see below are a few of the products that we have created. Like all my earlier ranges, the story had to be told therefore a small booklet accompanies every product from this range giving a brief history and information on its architecture, patterns, decorative elements, etc.
I am self-taught therefore every time I work with a new range or story, it helps me learn and grow as a designer because of the extensive research that goes into the subject. While working on the Taj Mahal range, I learned about Mughal architecture, geometric patterns, stucco, stone inlays, calligraphy, abstract forms and vegetative motifs, herringbone inlays, tessellation patterns, etc.
Range of products: Serving trays, Coasters, Multipurpose boxes, bookmarks, stationery, rulers, magnets, journals, book-ends, business card holders, etc.
